1. Fact คือ ใช้กับสิ่งที่เป็นจริง
สูตร : If + present simple , present simple
เช่น If we heat water, it boils.

2. ถ้า…จึงจะ
สูตร : If + present simple / present prefect , will + V1
เช่น If you work hard, you will succeed.

3. ประโยคที่ตรงกันข้ามกับความจริงในปัจจุบัน และ อนาคต
สูตร : If + past simple , would + V1
เช่น If I were the king, I would help the poor.
ปัจจุบัน = I’m not the king so I cannot help the poor.

4. ประโยคที่ตรงกันข้ามกับความจริงใน อดีต
สูตร : If + past perfect , would + have + V3
เช่น If you had informed me earlier about the cancellation , I would not have came to the office this morning.
อดีต = You did not inform me so I came to office this morning.

5. ประโยคที่ตรงกันข้ามกับความจริงใน อดีต , ปัจจุบัน และ อนาคต
สูตร : If + past perfect, would + V1 + now.
เช่น If Linda had driven more carefully , she would not be in the jail now.
อดีต = Lindo did not drive more carefully.
ปัจจุบัน และ อนาคต = So she is in the jail.
จะสังเกตเห็นว่า ตั้งแต่ ข้อ 3 - 5 นั้นมันจะประโยคที่ตรงข้ามกับสิ่งที่ผ่านมาในอดีตทั้งหมด (Unreal Past) ซึ่งเมื่อเราพูดถึง Unreal Past มันก็จะถูกแบ่งต่อ ออกมาเป็นดังนี้

Unreal Past

1. If ในข้อ 3,4 และ5 (ต่อไปจะเรียกตาม อาจารย์นะครับ ลุงท่านจะเรียกว่า If3, If4 และ if5 ตามลำดับ)
2. Wish = หวังว่า, ปรารถนาว่า
2.1 สูตร : S + wish + Past simple ใช้กับประโยคที่เป็น Present simple เช่น
I wish he were here now. = ผมหวังว่าเขาจะมาอยู่ที่นี่ตอนนี้
2.2 สูตร : S + wish + Past perfect ใช้กับประโยคที่เป็น Past simple เช่น
I wish he had been here yesterday. = ผมหวังว่าเขามาอยู่ที่นี่เมื่อวาน
2.3 สูตร : S + wish + Future in the past (would + V1) ใช้กับประโยคที่เป็น Present Future เช่น
I wish he would be here tomorrow. = ผมหวังว่าเขาจะมาอยู่ที่นี่ในวันพรุ่งนี้
3. Suppose/Supposing = สมมติว่า
3.1 สูตร : Suppose/Supposing + S + past simple ใช้กับประโยคที่เป็น Present Simple /Future Simple เช่น
- Suppose she wanted the answer now.
- Suppose she wanted the answer tomorrow.
3.2. สูตร : Suppose/Supposing + S + past perfect ใช้กับประโยคที่เป็น Past Simple เช่น
Suppose she had wanted the answer yesterday.
4. Would rather = อย่าเพิ่ง
4.1 สูตร : S + would rather + S + Past Simple ใช้กับประโยคที่เป็น Present Simple / Future Simple เช่น
I would rather you did it now.
4.2 สูตร : S + would rather + S + Past Perfect ใช้กับประโยคที่เป็น Past Simple เช่น
I would rather you had done it last night.
5. as if / as though = ราวกับว่า
5.1 สูตร : S + V + as if / as though + S + Past Simple ใช้กับประโยคที่เป็น Past Simple เช่น
She acted as if / as though she owned the house.
5.2 สูตร : S + V + as if / as though + S + Past Perfect ใช้กับประโยคที่เป็น Present Simple และ Future Simple เช่น
He talks as if / as though he had done all the work by himself.
6. It’s high/about time = มันถึงเวลาแล้วที่เราจะ… , จวนเจียนที่จะ
สูตร : It’s high/about time + S + Past Simple
It’s high/about time you studied hard.
